licenses

witnesses
- Names and

drugs or
alcohol?

vehicles

After the Accident
There are several
steps that you should take after a car accident. You should notify your insurance company of the wreck / collision. File a police report if any damages to persons or vehicles involved. If you suffered any injuries as a result of the car accident, you must get medical attention.
Financial Compensation
People who have
been injured in an
automobile accident are
often entitled to
financial compensation for the
damages to themselves and their vehicles. This can include compensation
for lost wages,
property damage,
medical expenses,
and pain and
suffering. In cases
where the car
accident was caused
by another party's
reckless behavior,
punitive damages may
be recovered.
Punitive damages can
also be recovered
when the accident or
personal injury was
caused by a defect
in the vehicle.
Other Party at Fault
You have two options: You may file a claim with the at-fault party's insurance company if they are insured, or if you have collision insurance on your vehicle, you can have your own insurance company pay for the damages, and they will usually subrogate against the at-fault party to recover their loss. Either way, we recommend that you contact an attorney to represent you while dealing with insurance companies.
Tort System
Most auto liability insurance policies contain three major parts: liability insurance for bodily injury; liability insurance for property damage; and uninsured/under-insured motorists coverage.
